D.El.Ed and ETT Diploma: Are They the Same Thing?

18 April 2026

D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) and the older ETT (Elementary Teacher Training) diploma both prepare candidates to teach at the primary/elementary level, and in practice they're treated as broadly equivalent for most Punjab recruitment purposes.

The honest caveat

"Broadly equivalent" isn't the same as "always interchangeable." Every ETT Cadre or elementary-teaching recruitment notification specifies exactly which qualifications it accepts for that cycle — and that list can change between cycles. If you hold one of these diplomas and you're not certain it qualifies you for a specific recruitment, the safe move is to check that cycle's official notification directly, not rely on what was true for a previous year's recruitment.

What we tell students who ask

Come in with your certificate and we'll help you read the current notification's eligibility section line by line — it takes ten minutes and it's a more reliable answer than anything general we could write here.
