ETT Cadre Recruitment: The Exam Pattern Explained
28 July 2026
The ETT (Elementary Teacher Training) Cadre exam recruits teachers for Punjab's primary-level government schools. It's the exam our own toppers — Rank 1 (170/200) and Rank 7 (158/200) in the most recent ETT Cadre 5994 cycle — came through.
Who's eligible
You need a D.El.Ed or ETT diploma (or an equivalent qualification recognised for that recruitment cycle), and in most cycles, a valid PSTET Paper 1 score is also required. Always check the specific year's official notification — eligibility rules are set fresh for each recruitment.
What's actually tested
- Child Development & Pedagogy — how children learn, and how to teach them
- Punjabi Language — grammar and comprehension
- English Language — grammar and comprehension
- Mathematics — elementary-level content and teaching methodology
- Environmental Studies
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs — with a strong Punjab-specific component
Where most candidates lose marks
In our experience running this batch every cycle, it's rarely the pedagogy section that trips candidates up — it's the Punjab-specific general knowledge and current-affairs portion, because it's the section people revise last and cram least thoroughly. We cover this with weekly current-affairs classes through the course rather than a last-week crash session.
See our ETT Cadre course for the full batch structure.
