Punjab Master Cadre Recruitment 2026: Complete Preparation Guide Before the Notification

10 October 2026

The Punjab Master Cadre recruitment is expected to be announced soon, and thousands of B.Ed graduates across the state are waiting for it. The candidates who usually make the final list are not the ones who start studying the day the notification comes out. They are the ones who start now.

This guide covers what we know so far, what to expect in the exam, and a simple plan you can follow from today.

Important: The official notification has not been released yet. Details below are based on recent reports and earlier recruitment cycles. Always confirm final eligibility, posts and dates on the official notification from the Department of School Education, Punjab.

What we know so far

  • Expected subjects: Reports this year mention preparation for 7 Master Cadre subjects: Punjabi, Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education.
  • Expected posts: Third-party estimates range from about 2,000 to 4,000 posts. The real number will only be clear when the notification is out.
  • Syllabus: SCERT Punjab has assigned subject experts to prepare the syllabus. Keep checking for the official version.
  • Punjabi paper: Recent Punjab recruitments have included a compulsory 10th-level Punjabi qualifying paper. Do not ignore it, because failing it can end your selection even with a high main score.

Eligibility: check yourself now

Based on earlier cycles, you will usually need:

  1. Graduation in the relevant subject combination, with the minimum percentage set in the notification.
  2. B.Ed from a recognised institution.
  3. PSTET Paper-II (or as specified in the notification).
  4. Age: generally 18 to 37 years, with relaxation for reserved categories and other eligible groups as per Punjab Government rules.
  5. Punjabi at Matric level.

Do this today: Get your degree marksheets, B.Ed certificate, PSTET certificate, category certificate and Punjabi proof ready in one folder. Many candidates lose time or even their chance because of a missing or mismatched document.

Exam pattern (based on previous cycles)

Detail Previous pattern
Type of questions Objective (MCQ), OMR based
Number of questions 150
Total marks 150
Time 2 hours 30 minutes
Negative marking None in previous cycles
Punjabi qualifying paper Matric level, qualifying only

No negative marking means you should attempt every question. Accuracy still matters, because the cut-off can be close.

Subject-wise focus areas

  • English: Grammar, literary terms, major Indian and British writers, and linguistics.
  • Punjabi: Classical and modern poetry, Gurmat, Sufi and folk literature, prose, and grammar.
  • Hindi: History of Hindi literature, major poets and writers, grammar, ras, chhand and alankar.
  • Mathematics: Algebra, calculus, coordinate and 3D geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics.
  • Science: Physics, chemistry (physical, organic and inorganic), botany and zoology.
  • Social Studies: History (Punjab, India and world), geography, polity and economics.
  • Physical Education: Sports history, anatomy and physiology, health, sports psychology, yoga and athletics.

Along with your subject, keep revising teaching methodology, child development and Punjab general knowledge, as these often add easy marks.

A 90-day preparation plan

Days 1 to 30: Build the base

  • Go through the full syllabus of your subject once, using standard graduation-level books.
  • Make short notes for each chapter. These will become your revision material.
  • Start 30 minutes of Punjabi grammar and comprehension practice every day.

Days 31 to 60: Practice

  • Solve previous year Master Cadre papers subject-wise.
  • Take at least two topic tests every week.
  • Keep a notebook of mistakes and go back to it every Sunday.

Days 61 to 90: Test and revise

  • Take full-length mock tests of 150 questions in 2.5 hours, under exam conditions.
  • Analyse every mock test: which topics took too long, and where you lost marks.
  • Revise only from your own notes. Avoid starting new books at this stage.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting for the notification before starting preparation.
  • Ignoring the Punjabi qualifying paper.
  • Reading too many sources instead of revising a few good ones.
  • Skipping mock tests. Time management in 150 questions is a skill you build only by practice.
  • Last-minute form filling. Fill the form early and check every detail before final submission.
