SSC GD Constable vs Punjab Police: Picking Between Them
22 March 2026
Candidates preparing for uniformed government posts often ask whether to target SSC GD Constable (a central paramilitary recruitment) or Punjab Police (a state recruitment) — or both.
The core difference
SSC GD Constable recruits for central armed police forces (postings can be anywhere in India). Punjab Police recruits specifically for policing within the state. Both involve a written exam plus physical standards and efficiency tests, but the posting, service conditions and exact syllabus differ.
Overlapping preparation
The written-exam preparation overlaps substantially — General Awareness, Reasoning, Elementary Mathematics and English/Hindi comprehension form the backbone of both. Many of our students preparing for one sit for the other as a backup, which is a reasonable strategy given how much of the written prep transfers directly.
Our SSC course and Punjab Police course between them cover both tracks.
